Real estate SEO keywords are the phrases people type when they want to buy, sell, rent or understand property in a place. The useful ones name a city or neighborhood and match a page you can actually build. Enter your market below for grouped ideas, then check search volume for free.

Free real estate SEO keyword generator

Enter your city, neighborhoods, property types and role. The generator builds keyword ideas, groups them by search intent, suggests the page each one needs, and lets you copy the list or download a CSV.

It generates ideas and has no search data. It shows no volume because it does not know the volume, and neither does a template. The CSV leaves two blank columns for the numbers you look up.

You listed 2 neighborhoods. Build a page for one only if you can write something about it that would not fit any other area.

Runs in your browser. Nothing you type is stored or sent unless you click a Google link, which opens that search on Google. These are ideas with no search volume. Check volume before you build a page.

Key takeaways

  • A keyword idea is a guess until you check it. Google says Keyword Planner is free, and it shows how often people search for a term.
  • Google's starter guide says it does not use the keywords meta tag, and that keywords in a domain or URL alone have hardly any effect.
  • Google says keyword stuffing and doorway pages violate its spam policies, so do not build near-identical pages for every neighborhood.
  • Sort by intent first. A phrase from someone ready to act needs a different page than a question from someone a year away.

The three groups the generator uses. Groups and example phrases are our judgment. Examples show the pattern only, and none has a checked search volume.

What are real estate SEO keywords?

Real estate SEO keywords are the words a person types into a search engine when looking for property, an agent, a manager or an answer about a local market. Your job is to find the phrases your clients use, then give each one a page that truly answers it.

Google's SEO starter guide puts it simply: think about the words a user might search for. It also notes that experts and newcomers use different words. You say absorption rate. Your client says how long will my house take to sell. Write the phrase your client would use.

Most lists of the best real estate keywords give the same national phrases, such as real estate agent near me. You can't do much with those. You would be competing with every agent and portal that wants the same phrase. A phrase with your neighborhood in it may have far fewer searches, and it may be one you can actually win. Check, because that is still a guess until you look.

How to check search volume for free

To check search volume for free, paste your list into Google Keyword Planner, then confirm the phrases with Google Search Console and the Google results page. Use Trends for comparing two phrases. Local phrases can show little or no data, which tells you to judge them by intent and by what already ranks.

  1. 1

    Download the CSV

Your keyword ideas come with blank columns for searches and difficulty. Every number in that file will be one you looked up.
  2. 2

Use Keyword Planner for search estimates

Google calls Keyword Planner a free resource that shows how often people search for terms. You need a Google Ads account and a campaign to reach it, and Google's help page says account setup asks for billing information. Read November 2026.
  3. 3

Check Search Console for what you already show up for

The Performance report lists the queries your site appeared for, with clicks, impressions and average position. It is real data about your own site, though it cannot show a phrase you never appear for.
  4. 4

Use Google Trends to compare, not to count

Google Trends scales its data from 0 to 100 based on a term's share of searches. It tells you which of two phrases is more popular. A score of 50 is not 50 searches.
  5. 5

    Search the phrase yourself

Use the Google link beside each idea. If the top results are all listings and you planned a blog post, change the plan. Read the People also ask box for your next topics.

For a second opinion, the Ahrefs free keyword generator lists search volume estimates and offers a difficulty filter, as of November 2026. Tools estimate differently, so use the numbers to compare phrases within one tool. Do not add them up across tools.

Where should keywords go on a page?

Put your main phrase where a reader looks first: the page title, the main heading and the opening lines. Beyond that, write naturally. Google says its language matching can connect a page with searches even when the exact words do not appear, so repeating a phrase gains you little.

Three myths are worth dropping, all from Google's own documentation.

  • Meta keywords. The starter guide says Google Search does not use the keywords meta tag.
  • Keyword-rich URLs and domains. The same guide says keywords in a domain or URL path alone have hardly any effect beyond breadcrumbs. You do not need a new domain with your city in it.
  • A magic word count. Google's helpful content page says it has no preferred word count.

One page should do one job. The generator's suggested page column exists so you can merge phrases. Closing costs in your city and the cost to sell a house there belong on one cost guide, not two thin pages.

Real estate landing pages

Real estate landing pages are single-purpose pages built for one search or ad: a home value request, a buyer guide, one listing. Give each one job and one call to action. Match the headline to the phrase that brought the person, put a tappable phone number at the top, and ask only what you need on the form. A page built to rank needs the local detail described in the next section. A page built for ads does not have to rank at all.

Do you need a page for every neighborhood?

No. Build a neighborhood page only where you know something a reader could not get from a template. Twenty pages that differ only by the place name are the risk here. Google's spam policies name doorway abuse and scaled content abuse, and those pages can drift toward both.

Google's spam policies describe doorway abuse as pages created to rank for specific, similar search queries. Here is a test. Remove the place name from the page. If it could describe any neighborhood in the country, do not publish it yet. Add a recent sale you worked on, the street that floods in August, or the parking rule that surprises every new owner. That part is hard to copy.

Phrases the generator leaves out on purpose

The generator will not suggest phrases about who belongs in a neighborhood, or phrases promising to stop a foreclosure. Both can create legal trouble that outweighs any traffic. This is our editorial choice. It is not a list of banned words, so ask a local attorney about specific wording.

  • Who should live there. The Fair Housing Act at 42 U.S.C. 3604(c) bars housing ads and notices showing a preference based on race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status or national origin. So we left out phrases like family friendly or safe neighborhood. Publish facts readers can check, such as commute times and sold prices.
  • Rescue promises. Investor sites are often tempted by phrases about stopping foreclosure. The FTC's mortgage relief rule guide covers services represented as helping homeowners prevent or postpone foreclosure, and it bans upfront fees for them. A page making that promise may be making a regulated claim. We cover this further in the guide to motivated sellers.

SEO for real estate investors

SEO for real estate investors usually targets two different people: an owner who wants to sell and a cash buyer who wants deals. Those need separate pages, because an owner should never land on a page of deal spreads. Set the generator's role to investor to see both groups.

Seller pages win on trust, because the phrase we buy houses in your city is one where the searcher has reason to be wary. Show a real name, a local phone number, how you price, and when listing with an agent would net them more. That last page is the one most investor sites will not write, which is a reason to write it. Keep buyer pages behind a list sign-up, and check your state rules on marketing contracts first. The guide to wholesaling real estate covers that.

Real estate topics worth writing about

The best real estate topics are questions your clients have already asked you. Each one shows you what the words sound like and proves somebody cares. Keep a note on your phone for a month, then write up the ones you hear twice. The generator's learning group gives you more.

  • Costs: closing costs and property taxes in your city, with the numbers from a real closing statement, details removed.
  • Timing: how long homes took to sell in your area this quarter, from your MLS.
  • Place: moving to your city, and neighborhood comparisons you can back with facts.
  • Process: what happens between offer and closing here, including local customs.
  • Owners: local landlord rules and average rents, if you manage or invest. Link to the statute.

One warning from Google's helpful content page: producing lots of content on many topics in the hope that some performs is a warning sign. Pick topics you can answer better than anyone. For how this fits your wider plan, the real estate marketing planner shows how many hours to give it.

Do not forget the map

Plenty of local searches show a map. Google says local results depend mainly on relevance, distance and prominence, and there is no way to pay for a better local ranking. Keywords alone do not decide this. A complete Business Profile and real reviews help.

A worked example: from keyword list to page plan

The generator's default example is an agent in Tucson, chosen only as a sample market. Its ready to act phrases reduce to the short page list below. Search volume is blank on purpose. This is the plan before you check, which is the state most keyword lists leave you in without admitting it.

The page you build for a ready to act phrase has one more job. Someone searching for a home value or an agent in a specific neighborhood is often ready to call. You spent six months ranking that page, the phone rings at 7pm while you are at a showing, and the caller moves to the next result.

callflo.ai is an AI receptionist that answers that line 24/7, handles questions from what you give it, captures the lead and texts it to you. On VIP it also books appointments on your calendar. Starter is 39 dollars a month on annual billing, or 49 dollars month to month, with 120 minutes and extra minutes at 0.98 dollars. See how it works for real estate agents. It will not help your rankings, and if your site gets few calls today, fix the pages first. Lead lines that ring through to you all day are where it earns its keep.

FAQ

The best ones name a place you serve and match a page you can build, such as homes for sale in a specific neighborhood. No list can tell you the best phrases for your market without checking. Look up search volume and read the live results first.

No. It builds ideas from your inputs and has no search data, so it never shows a volume number. The CSV has blank columns for you to fill in from Keyword Planner or another tool.

Google describes Keyword Planner as a free resource, though it requires a Google Ads account and a campaign, and account setup asks for billing information. Search Console shows queries your site already appears for. Google Trends compares phrases on a relative scale from 0 to 100 and does not show counts.

Build separate pages for owners who may sell and for cash buyers. Seller pages should show your real name, local phone number and how you price. Avoid promising to stop a foreclosure, because the FTC's mortgage relief rule covers services represented that way.

Only for neighborhoods where you have something specific to say. Google's spam policies describe doorway abuse as pages created to rank for specific, similar search queries. If a page could describe any neighborhood once the name is removed, do not publish it yet.
